Tharus in Chitwan


Tharus one of the largest and oldest ethnic community of the Terai region i:e southern plains to length of Nepalese foothills with their unique culture. They prefere to call themselves as people of forests, in Chitwan they have lived for hundrds of years practicing way of different cultivation. Now the Tharu lives in strongly built houses and grow barley, wheat, maize, and rice as well as raising animals like chickens, pigs, goats.
Best and intersting, you can see the painting outer walls and verandahs of their home with colorful paintings by woman which is deicated to goddess Lakshmi.Tharu has own mother tongue.
