Simikot Airport is a domestic airport located in the town of Simikot, in the Humla district of Nepal. It is situated at an elevation of 2,840 meters (9,318 feet) above sea level and is considered one of the highest airports in Nepal. The airport is operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal and serves as the gateway to the remote and mountainous region of Humla, as well as the starting point for the popular trekking route to Mount Kailash in Tibet.
The airport has a single runway, which is 500 meters long and 20 meters wide, with a gravel surface. Due to its location and high altitude, Simikot Airport is subject to challenging weather conditions, including strong winds and low visibility, which can sometimes result in flight delays or cancellations. Nevertheless, the airport plays a crucial role in facilitating transportation and tourism in the region.
