Tabo Monastery Himalayas

Tabo Monastery is one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in India and Himalayas. Tabo Monastery is situated in the Tabo town of Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh, northern India. It was established in 996 CE in the Tibetan year of the Fire Ape by the Tibetan Buddhist Rinchen Zangpo, in past, it was the part of Tibet.

The Monastery is standing in the Spiti valley above Tabo town on the left bank of the Spiti River. The Bowl-Shaped valley is surrounded by Ladakh in the north, Lahaul and Kullu regions in the west and south-east separately, and by Tibet and the Kinnaur region in the east.  Monastery an altitude of 3050 meters in very cold, rocky lands of Indian Himalayas.

There are numerous stupas in the regions of the sanctuary complex of which four have artworks in its inside. Two of the stupas are dated to the thirteenth century, in light of the artworks. 
Another name for monastery"The Ajanta of the Himalayas" due to its frescoes and stucco artworks.
The walls of a monastery are 3 feet (0.91 m) in thickness and high mud-block walls which encases about 6,300 square meters (68,000 sq ft).The monastery is standing along with Chortens, monks residence, and other nuns residence


Worshiping start from early 6 am morning

In September or October of every three years  Chakhar Festival is celebrated which dedicated peace and happiness of all, In this carnival mask dances, songs, Tibetan monks perform religious activities


Tabo Monastery has nine temples, four stupas and cave shrines. The paintings of the main temple took back to a 10th-11th century and represent the entire Vajradhatu Mandala. An entry hall of the main temple is followed by Assembly Hall (Du Khang). The founders of the temple, Yeshe-o and along with sons paintings at entry hall. The old entry hall date back to 996 AD and new entry hall dated to 19th century


The Golden Temple believed to be covered with Gold discovered by King of Ladakh in the 16th century
